How to avoid having issues when using your embroidery software to open embroidery files.

While embroidery software packages can be useful in manipulating designs, they can also cause issues with the order that the design gets stitched out in.

We advise being careful when using embroidery software with our in the hoop designs for this reason.

An example of when software can be problematic is the Husqvarna software package “Premier+”, by default when you export files through this software it will “ColorSort” the design unless this option is disabled. This option will group embroidery steps based on colours to reduce overall step changes and save time, however this completely reorganises the ordering of the stitching and as a result the design won’t match up with our instructions.

The above example can happen with any machine’s embroidery software if the ‘colour sorting’ option is enabled.

All embroidery machine file formats included

We include all the embroidery formats within each of our in the hoop design downloads so that you can copy the design directly to a USB stick without the need to convert it in your own software.

  1. Thanks, Tim. The scissors case design was giving me fits before I chanced on this info. So instead of sending the design to my machine through Premier, I dragged it onto a thumb drive. In the future,I think I’ll go into Premier Configure and deselect the color-sort option when exporting.

  2. Thank you Tim for that information. I actually have to import the designs into my software – 3D- to be able to add them to a formatted USB to use with my Designer 1. Sometimes I will combine designs but I know now not to colour sort the designs from Sweet Pea. I have Premier software but haven’t ventured into using it yet as I’m usually in a hurry to get things done. So much for thinking I would have more time when I retired!

    • Hi Joan, software packages are required for some machines to transfer designs (especially machines which use design cards instead of USBs). I know the “ColorSort” option within Premier can catch a lot of people off-guard with our designs especially. It can be avoided just by unticking the “ColorSort” option when you export files.

Some software packages will give you a warning (such as Embird) before merging colours so you know what impact it will have on the design. I receive many emails related to Premier software packages doing this automatically without people knowing. “ColorSort” as a concept is a good idea, however only when the order of the stitching isn’t relevant can it be useful.
