After a long 14 hour flight, we arrived at our first stop DUBAI! It was 5am and we were ready to see Dubai for the day. Of course we had to wait for things to open but we were eager to explore.
First Stop: Old Dubai
The markets were bustling with merchants trying to sell their beautiful goods. We visited the gold souk and textiles souk and saw lots of colourful Arabic arts including plates, candles and heaps of FABRIC.
Second Stop: Dubai Marina
For lunch, we drove to the Dubai Marina and sat at one of the many restaurants along the water. We enjoyed a scenic walk seeing all of the fabulous architectural features of the buildings on our way to the beach, including the building in the center, currently getting built to look like a ship on the top of the building. This is just one of the endless skyscrapers that amazed us.
Last Stop: Downtown Dubai / Dubai Mall
We went to the Dubai mall just to see how big it would be considering it’s one of the largest in the world. It deserves that name because we got lost for over an hour just trying to find a way out. At least we enjoyed the attractions inside the mall including a huge aquarium in the center of the shopping mall.
What a sight to see! Sunset during the water show outside the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.
Dubai was fantastic and we can’t wait to visit again. It was time, we were off to the UK! The next blog will update you on all the fun things we get up to in Scotland including our visit to Karelia House.
